Mark Davis and Julie Vivolo Davis

Founders and Owners It is no surprise that Boston born chef, Mark Davis, brought his recipe with him from Boston and has been pleasing chowder-heads ever since.  Voted “Best Clam Chowder” for many years by the Coast Weekly readers, he serves the chowder in a sourdough bread bowl and unique to Vivolo’s, with a garlic cheese lid, delicious!

Mark, his wife Julie, and the Vivolo family opened the restaurant in 1990 in the hopes of offering an excellent product at a reasonable price, targeted for the local’s and the tourist looking for a place off the beaten path to enjoy.  Mark, having the love of cooking, started at age 14 working in restaurants, traveling and being trained as an apprentice chef by many renown Chef’s across the country and landing in Lake Tahoe.  After 10 years and after opening both the Fresh Ketch and The Beacon Restaurant on the Lake, He moved to the Monterey Peninsula, Julie’s native home.  Mark is a natural born outdoorsman and has a love for both the ocean and the land.  He believes Pacific Grove and the Monterey Peninsula offers the best of both.  As an avid fisherman, he actually did most of the fishing for the restaurant at the beginning.  Using the freshest ingredients from the ocean and the greatest home grown veggies from the Salinas Valley-He puts together a menu that offers a wonderful fresh flair for the land and sea!
